HOW DO YOU CREATE YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?
Mostly I draw by hand using black markers - different types of thickness. Then I scan the drawing and work on it in Adobe Photoshop - clean the dust, resize, change some mistakes, colour.
HOW CAN YOU TRAVEL SO MUCH?
I love to travel! As freelancer you can work anywhere - from home, from home of your friends, in the cafe or hotel. So it is much easier to travel a lot and keep working. Also, I am always willing to organize exhibitions in other cities or countries to travel more. As the PhD student it is easier to apply for scholarships to participate in international projects.
WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT PLANS?
My fascination with books for kids results in having more picture books than text books in the bookshelf. I would love to focus on creation of picture books next months. Invention of stories and finding visual language is a wonderful work. Also, this year I plan to defense my PhD thesis at Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk - after 3,5 years of PhD studies.
WHAT IS THE HARDEST THING OF BEING AN ILLUSTRATOR?
At the same time you have to be your own manager, critic, artist - it is heavy to combine all the functions. Sometimes I post new projects online after long time, because I focus at the time more on creation. The best would be to work only on creative part, but it is impossible as being a freelancer.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Other artists who put their heart in their projects, bold decissions, distinctive places (by color, architecture, people), ecological conscious foundations and companies, people who are not afraid to speak their mind.
DO YOU SELL YOUR WORKS?
During my exhibitions, in the shops with young design or at art auctions. Also, I receive inquiries about buying my works and items by recommendations or online. If you like something and would love to buy, just send me an email.
WHICH OF YOUR PROJECTS YOU ARE MOST PROUD OF?
Definitely balticarium.com platform. It is the interactive website about Baltic Sea animals with games, anmations, pictures and so on. You can read there among others about the moon jelly, the sea scorpion, the sand hopper in... nine languages! I created this page, because I found out that there is not so much information about Baltic Sea animals and I decided to change it.
